Dr. Nelson Chuang is a dedicated physician with a distinguished academic background. He completed his undergraduate studies at Johns Hopkins University in biomedical engineering, earned his medical degree from Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, and completed residency at Montefiore Medical Center. Dr. Chuang pursued specialized training in gastroenterology through a fellowship at the University of Maryland, where he was a NIH T32 fellow earning a doctorate in Molecular Medicine with a focus in Cancer and Genomics under Scott Devine. He has studied longevity in centenarians, colon cancer genomics, and wrote his thesis on mobile elements in the human genome, He has authored and co-authored papers in Science, Nature Communications, PNAS, and Genome Research.
Dr. Chuang is known for his compassion, detail-orientedness, and curiosity, He is committed to applying evidence-based research to his patient care as well as having earnest discussions regarding patient concerns. He has specific interests, but not limited to, acid reflux disease and swallowing disorders, weight loss, liver diseases, irritable bowel syndrome, and colorectal cancer prevention. Other than standard endoscopic procedures, he can also perform BRAVO pH studies, esophageal dilations, and hemorrhoid ligation.
When he is not spending extra time looking at his patient charts and reading about new advances in GI, Dr. Chuang enjoys spending time with his wife and young two kids exploring the greater Frederick area and traveling to new places. He is very interested in fitness and health trying to find time in his busy schedule to run, weightlift, swim, and play tennis. Roger Federer will always be the G.O.A.T. in his eyes.
