Dr. Shien Hu followed in his father's footsteps to pursue a career in gastroenterology after completing an extensive training program. He earned his Medical Doctor degree from Peking Union Medical College, the leading medical school in China, through a competitive 8-year program. Seeking to delve deeper into basic science research on digestive diseases, particularly focusing on inflammatory bowel disease and colon cancer, Dr. Hu moved to the United States and conducted research at the University of Chicago. His work at the molecular level enhanced his understanding of these diseases, leading to his appointment as a research-associated assistant professor after 5 years of postdoctoral training.
In 2010, Dr. Hu transitioned back to the frontline of patient care, completing internal medicine training at the University of Nevada Reno, where he also served as Chief Resident. He later moved to Maryland, completing his Gastroenterology fellowship training at the University of Maryland. With 7 years of experience as a GI attending and assistant professor at the University of Maryland Medical System, he joined Frederick Gastroenterology Associates in 2023.
Dr. Hu is passionate about sharing medical knowledge with his patients and takes an evidence-based approach to medicine.
Outside of his medical career, Dr. Hu resides in Howard County with his wife and two children. He enjoys participating in sports with his kids and has a deep appreciation for music, often indulging in his audiophile hi-fi systems.
